In my situation no 7.2 yet, but Rob thanks for that information. Is there
a command you can run on POWER6 systems that would roadmap what will not
work if you load 7.2 or is it a MEMO to users document and then print off
your rack config to match it up against. For my situation, I need 6.1 host
with (1) 7.1 guest.

I did host some guest lpar's of 7.2 underneath a 7.1 host lpar. Yes it
still generated some warning messages about the underlying hardware having
some cabling loops that it didn't like but it worked. Best make darn sure
that that whatever hardware you do need by the 7.2 lpar is carefully
thought out. Like, you're not even thinking about using a scsi tape,
right? And if it's fiber it's on an IOPless controller on the main unit,
right? I'll be honest, the ancient hardware I had, and the draconian
restrictions of 7.2, put a serious crimp in my style of having all lpars
on the latest release within 3 months of G/A.

There is a bunch of hardware that IBM i 7.2 will not recognize. Your
Power6 machine likely has some of that hardware. As a result you most
likely cannot upgrade your HOST partition to IBM i 7.2. You CAN have i
7.2 as a guest along with i 7.1 and i 6.1 guest partitions.
