Since having chosen to provide a new *CMD object on some previous release(s), there is no reason that "IBM" could not provide also, and they still could provide, the support for the CL *PRV compiler support via PTFs; an accompanying PTF could be issued that would update the OPTION() of the OS that provides the Target Release CL compiler support, to add\include the version of the new command that was provided for the respective prior release(s). The IBM KB\technote document that describes a circumvention, could have noted instead, which PTF to apply to resolve the situation; seems more considerate to just provide the PTF, rather than expecting multitudes of customers to implement the same circumvention.
