Our OPS uses a TS3100 tape library and Ultrium 3 cartridges. Not using BRMS
(yet).
Last night save was 30 minutes into save when issued CPF5349 Media error
message, followed by CPP630C *ATTENTION* Media error...
and then CPF6792 tape drive needs to be cleaned. ..followed by CPF4290
Labels not found

Unfortunately someone had read the InfoCenter statement

"The only time you must clean your Ultrium tape drive is when the tape
drive alerts you to clean it."

http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v7r1m0/index.jsp?topic=%2Frzam4%2Frzam4cleantape.htm

So - nightly unattended save is crashed. Verified previous night save had
no "clean tape warnings".

How often should a LTO drive be cleaned? (each night is approx 4 hrs of
tape activity).
I seem to recall in past it was based on #hours in use (like 10)?
