Good idea using the "before update of ". A further optimization would be
using a WHEN clause before the trigger's main body. Something like:

create trigger mylib/mytrig
before update of the_specific_field /* <-- addendum */

on mylib/myfile
referencing new as new_row
for each row mode db2row
when new_row.myfield < 0
begin
set new_row.myfield = 0;
end /* FWiW: officially, there is no semicolon here */


Also, thanks for the heads-up regarding the last semicolon. Sometimes one
gets carried away with them...:-)
