Testing/comparing times for a dedicated system save using 4 parallel HH LTO5 fiber drives.
Production SSD drives – 2/17 IPL for PTF apply, followed by dedicated system save, 2 TB, using 4 HH LTO5 fiber drives, save went from 2 hours with 2 drives to 55 minutes with 4 drives.
R&D 10K SAS drives – 3/3 IPL for PTF apply, followed by dedicated system save, 5TB, using 4 HH LTO5 fiber drives, save went from 6 hours with 2 drives to 5:45 with 4 drives.
Watching the 3573 GUI tape monitor,
Production, all 4 drives were almost constantly writing.
R&D, state of 4 drives very inconsistent, 4 idle, 1 writing, 2 writing, 3 writing, never saw all 4 writing.
I believe this is a combination of the 10K SAS not being able to feed the 4 drives AND 1st save following an IPL, APAR II12893.
Production - SSD drives performed well, no issues.
R&D - 10k SAS drives, major issues.
Each LPAR has their own pair of 5913 DASD controllers.
Has anyone ever gathered performance data while in restricted state doing a dedicated system save.
MPG has informed me if I keep QSYSWRK running, I should be able to gather perf data.
Thank You
