Subject: Re: Upgrade disk drives in cec on v6r1 from 35gb to 70gb disk
drive

It's pretty easy, but easy doesnt mean safe. You have to:
Stop parity protection
Remove data from all the disks you can
Remove those disks from the config (its the same step as before, but
when
done, shut off and physically remove those drives, check serials if
needed)
add new disks
add to config
remove the other drives (you wont be able to remove load source yet)
again shutdown and replace but leave 1 bay free
again add disks and add to config
shutdown and add another disk
this time, go to the copy load source option and choose the only empty
disk
shutdown again, replace the load source with the copy and add the final
disk
check that it IPLs and add the final disk to the config
Start parity
finally, do a full IPL and run an STRASPBAL with whatever options you
use
(or *capacity if unsure).
Done
Like i said, it's not hard but if you have any problem in the middle
you'll
have to restore AND maybe get some specialist onsite.
Best of luck!
Roberto

I need to migrate the 35gb disk units to 70gb disk including the load
source.

All 8 units in the load source is under 1 parity set. I can move data
from 4 disk units to other units in the system

I would then have 4 disk units free in the CEC.

My goal is to get all 8 units in the CEC on 1 parity set migrated from
35gb units to 70gb units. I will have enough

Space to have all of these units empty during the process.

How do I get the load source migrated.

Where can I find the procedure on how to get this accomplished.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
