5250 still 'works' in an SSO environment. There are a couple of ways to
set that up.
One way is that you configure their sessions to auto connect upon startup.
If they log off they will have to 'disconnect' and reconnect to get
signed on. We did this for a select few who we insisted they pass
biometrics on. See LCLPWDMGT(*NO).
Another way is that you can still allow them to sign on using a password
instead, as an alternative. Might be required for operators who need to
use the HMC system console.

Think of it this way. You have a laptop. The laptop has a fingerprint
reader. You can log into windows using your fingerprint. It can be setup
so that you can ONLY log into Windows using your fingerprint and not by
entering some password. Now, you use EIM to connect to your IBM i using
shared credentials from Windows. So, basically your only connection to
IBM i is via a fingerprint reader on your laptop. QED.
