Your error is because you have a calculated column with no name...

But your SQL won't give you want you want anyway...this one will

Note I'm using the AS to assign a name

CHAR_LENGTH(STRIP(CAT#)) as Len
, count(*) as cnt
from file
where cat# <> ' '

(select cat#, CHAR_LENGTH(STRIP(CAT#)) from FILE

where cat# <> ' ') with data
