Re: system name in access telnet screen and user displays

The rtvneta is one issue.
I want to verify IBM Content Manager (the 5.3 version) and other products that may use rtvneta or it's api.
(and it's not Bert & Ernie either)

Ha for a moment there I though I knew where you worked. :-)

This is display only. Not for NetServer or SNA or IP or DB name etc.

***WARNING*** however. I HAVE seen where CUSTOMER programs do RTVNETA
and then based on the value returned for SYSNAME do 'stuff'. So while
this won't affect any IBM software it could affect yours!

Prompt CHGNETA and the very first name at the top is what shows on the
signon screen, etc. That name means nothing to communications, database,
etc. You can change it from Bart to Homer for example without affecting
the system. The bad news is it takes an IPL to become effective. :-(

External users now see it. There is a lot of communications (external and between systems) to deal with.
Many screens and menus use SYSNAME.
Short of doing the actual CHGNETA and the associated changes (i know how to do this) and other option of changing everywhere SYSNAME is used (including a customized logon screen) to calc a diff name (users don't see IBM menus), any other options? I would think not, but need to ask.
