You might also try changing the device description to "Unload device at
vary off . . . . : *NO ". That might take care of the issue, and was
new to me when we came to 7.1 from v5r4.

Jeff,--
Maybe because I could share the image catalog between virtual devices, I
have the following in my save job;
ADDIMGCLGE IMGCLG(BACKUP) FROMFILE(*new) +
TOFILE('SaveName.bin') +
IMGCLGIDX(1) IMGSIZ(999) TEXT(*GEN) +
ALCSTG(*IMGSIZ) VOLNAM(SaveYYMM) +
NEWOWNID(OwnerName)
LODIMGCLG IMGCLG(BACKUP) DEV(TAPVRT01) WRTPTC(*NONE)
SAV DEV('/qsys.lib/tapvrt01.devd') +
OBJ(('/MyFolder/SubDirectory/2013/10')) +
OUTPUT(*print) LABEL(WhatIWantHere)
LODIMGCLG IMGCLG(BACKUP) OPTION(*UNLOAD) DEV(TAPVRT01) +
WRTPTC(*NONE)
RMVIMGCLGE IMGCLG(Backup) IMGCLGIDX(1)
This way I know that the virtual device is only allocated to the image
catalog when I'm ready to do a save.

All,
I swear the last time I looked at the virtual tape image catalog I
created,
it was loaded and ready. That was several weeks ago. I looked at it
today
and it was not ready, so I had to do a LODIMGCLG.
Does an IPL make it not ready? I did an IPL to apply fixes last Friday
night.
If an IPL resets image catalogs to not ready, is there a way to tell an
image catalog to always go to ready state? Do I need to use the startup
program to do this?
Thanks.
