We have software that may help depending on what you're looking for.

Our JOBWATCH program will watch for any job status you want (ie MSGW), a
minimum number of jobs (ie, make sure certain jobs are running) as well as
monitor jobs to see how long they've been running.  If they run too long,
send an alert!

When a match is found, you can set it up to run any command or program you
want.  So it could be used to send an email, send a text, (which our
MAILTOOL software will do).

We personally have it set up to both email us a message and send a message
using our GreenJab application to also send a message to a chat Jabber/XMPP
client on our phone.
