I have only had to deal with S/36 files one time in my career, thank God.
Problem is how files are defined in programs. If a company was smart they
always put there file layouts in a source member and /copied into every
program but good luck with that happening.

What I found was that every programmer defined just what they need and what
a value was in one program might be something different in another program.
So in one program it was numeric value and in another program it was
character and what type was dependent on what was in another field.

Try to figure out that mess is.

STRS36

The rub is that, as I said, we don't have an S/36 emulator installed on
any of our boxes: STRS36 just returns "Command . . . not found," and a
WRKOBJ *ALL/STRS36 finds nothing.

I'll look over the rest of your response later, as I've just had a more
pressing (and thankfully, more straightforward) project dumped in my lap.
