I like it Paul. Here's a couple more based on when I was interviewing about 10 years ago, so I don't know if they're still on the i.

Do you play video games? Nintendo is an IBM I shop.

Do you drink coffee? Starbucks is an IBM i shop.

Do you gamble? Every major casino I've been to is an IBM i shop.

You're a bank? Tell them that Bank of America is an IBM i shop.

Who picks up their garbage? Both Waste Management and Republic Services are IBM i shops.

Are they outdoorsmen? How about Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops and REI?

Do they eat food? Many of the trucking companies are IBM i shops.

Do they drive on highways? Every Caterpillar dealer in the world has an IBM i.

When they go home at night, do they possibly sit on pieces Ethan Allen or Ashley furniture? Yup. They're IBM i shops.

Are they possibly yuppies or hipsters? Do they wear Ralph Lauren, Urban Outfitters, Abercrombie & Fitch? If they're old guys like me, how about Nordstrom? All IBM i shops.

How about construction companies? Have they ever heard of little ones like Parsons in Boston? I think Parsons built much of the big dig in Boston.
Skanska USA in New York? They built the underground structures holding up the new WTC. Manhattan in Tulsa? They built the Dallas Cowboys stadium and the new visitor center at the US Capitol, just to name a couple. Veco in Anchorage? They've surely heard of the Exxon oil spill.

Do they live in a house? Many of the homebuilders in this country are IBM i shops.

Do their wives shop at Target? Dollar Tree? Both are IBM i shops.

When they go to New York, do they visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art? You guessed it.

Do they have leather seats in their cars? That leather came from an IBM i shop.

And so , and so on.

Yes, another one of these threads... *sigh*

Upper management is saying "The AS/400 has served us well, but it is time to move on". "It is dying." You have all seen this before. All of IT is fighting this saying that it is more modern than you think, just that the old green-screen is showing it's age. And budget and time prevents us from "moderizing" more applications. We are trying to determine what is truly the problem. Is it the applications? Is it the interface? Can we not do something?

You don't need to preach to the choir here on benefits. We are putting together just how integrated our entire enterprise is to all of the custom applications we have written over the years on the system. I thought I could add in one other factor into our arguments. What companies are using the IBM i and what for? I know we can rattle off smaller banks and many small to medium-sized companies. But I am looking for "wow they use that?"
Something Upper Management may have heard of. If you can share (on or off list), I will pass along to my boss to pass to Upper Management.

And yes, I know the the AS/400 is really dead... it now called... um....
um.... screw it! It's the IBM Server!
