Well, upgrading from one OS to the next, or your PTF application, has to
be repeated for each lpar.
Using something like Tivoli Identity Manager sure helps us to keep
passwords in sync between each of the lpars.
At one time two significant customers of ours (large furniture
manufacturers in the Grand Rapids area) insisted that their ERP systems be
on separate systems. At that time it was possible with our business model
since we were a bunch of decentralized plants. Now that's no longer
possible and they've dropped that requirement.
On your development lpars your programmers will insist that the world will
end if they do not have *ALLOBJ. You can stop that on a separate
production lpar.
I have some software installed that is keyed based on partition number.
Yes, when doing one serious unload/reload with a lpar removal I did have
to create a dummy lpar just to keep the numbering in sync. Those of you
who have to trash all of your 0595's and numerous other enclosures and
whatnot when upgrading to 7.2, etc may run into such a situation.
