(IBM i 7.1)

We are currently testing a file extract process on IBM i which builds a UTF-8 text file in the IFS and uses the CPY command to copy the file to a folder on a Windows server via QNTC.

(The Power system where the data resides is located in Europe. The Windows Server is in the United States...)

The text file contains 6 million rows, file size is 3.5 gb, and the CPY takes around 14 hours to complete.

One of the consultants has suggested using FTP instead of CPY to move the data. His claim is that the SMB protocol used by QNTC has much more overhead than FTP.

We have not tested the transfer using FTP yet to compare the transfer times.

Anybody have knowledge/experience to support or refute this claim?

Regards,
Steve
