I find that hard to believe, since an LPAR is more or less the same as
a full partition (when VIOS is not around, at least).
Besides, it also says that:
"IBM i 7.1 partitions cannot own any HSL/RIO or IOP hardware, but they
can be virtual clients."
In power7 hard, of course, in power6 hard it would depend if legacy
drawers are avaiable, but on POWER5? it's all IOP-based.
So, how is that 520 running if IBM i 7.1 doesnt support IOP or HSL/RIO loops?
Maybe it refers to i hosted on i?
As soon as that TR is avaiable, i'm testing this...

I've been running 7.1 on a System i 520 for over 2 years. But it's a
single partition system. The quote says "IBM i 7.1 partitionS (note the
plural, emphasis mine) run on POWER6® and newer hardware. No POWER5
technology-based
systems are supported."

Maybe that's the clue . . .

I for one would like to see this question answered...

On that subject, i noticed something weird:

AFAIK IBM i 7.1 ran just fine on my test 520. Does this mean that
starting on TR7 the LIC wont load on such systems? or is it an attempt
to move people off the old hardware?

Just a thought...
