Instead of a bazillion spool files there are alternatives you can do:

CHGJOB
Job log output . . . . . . . . . LOGOUTPUT *PND
This pending option they came out with a few releases back is nice. In
fact I changed system value QLOGOUTPUT to this. I was tired of the users
deleting much needed joblogs just to clean up spool files. If I just have
to have a spool file of the joblog I can DSPJOBLOG *PRINT of the job in
question, running or completed.

Or, instead of *PRTWRAP you could tell it just to wrap.
