I'm loving the quote, Robert - thanks!

here's one from my youth, from a friend (not sure about the style, whether it's racist, but sobeit)

Me think you no think, 'cuz if you think, me think you think me no think either!

Wow! There's a wondrous kind of symmetry there!

Thanks, Vern.

I actually have a copy of the SQL Reference (.pdf) open but didn't even
think to look under CHAR. Doh!

I was coming up with ridiculous attempts using TIMESTAMP and
TIMESTAMP_FORMAT, etc.

be; but as it isn't, it ain't. That's logic."--Tweedledee

The CHAR() function has several values for the date format - separator is still controlled by a job setting or as Birgitta said, an option in STRSQL. Other interfaces have their own methods - embedded SQL. JDBC, etc.

Here's a bit from the documentation - worth getting the SQL Reference on your favorites list!

Datetime to Character

-CHAR--(--datetime-expression--+--------------+--)-----------><
'-,--+-ISO---+-'
+-USA---+
+-EUR---+
+-JIS---+
'-LOCAL-'
