To always ensure that the date is in the format desired do something like
char(current date, USA)
Too bad MDY is not supported. This works though:
values substr(char(current date, USA),1,6) concat
substr(char(current date, USA),9,2)
complete with slashes! MM/DD/YY or 09/05/13
