I want to add a little more information to this dialog....

First, the QUMECIMOM jobs are not the "Common Agent", but rather something
called the "Platform Agent".

They are indeed associated with the 5770-UME product. As you noted, the
TCP/IP server of *CIMOM will automatically start after the UME product is
installed.
(You can change this auto-start setting via the TCP/IP Servers GUI).

There have been numerous PTFs required for this support, for both the
operating system and the LPP itself. The support document found at this
link documents all the required PTFs. This document is updated when new
PTFs are released.

These jobs are required if you are using IBM Systems Director to manage IBM
i.

If you are not using IBM Systems Director, you may not need them (I'm not
sure what other products may require this LPP.)

Rob,

Thanks for those links. I had found the first one when looking at what
this is. It seems that 5770-UME (IBM Universal Manageability Enablement for
i) is auto loaded and configured to auto start when the operating system is
installed.

I found several PTFs that mentioned the job QUMECIMOM running in QSYSWRK
subsystem. None of them mentioned high CPU for no reason.

I'm still not quite sure what this program is used for or what else uses
it, and if I even need it running. I guess if it happens again I will
contact IBM support.

i5/OS V7.1 with all the latest PTFs applied last Sunday.


When checking one of the partitions on our IBM i servers I had a system
job
using lots of CPU. It has to do with Common Agent, and I could stop it
with the ENDTCPSVR SERVER(*CIMOM) command. The system is back to normal,
but it had high CPU usage overnight, since 11:00 last night.

What is it?

What is it used for?

Why was it using 90% + of my CPU?

How can I determine that it won't do it again?
