The two are not mutually exclusive: it is precisely the avoidance of crazy jumping around (which, back in the days when interpretive BASIC was as common as cowpats, and software was frequently distributed as BASIC source code, was often used as a primitive form of obfuscation) that makes code that uses only LEAVE and/or ITERATE more structured, and therefore more portable.
