Is it possible to use an external drive for AS/400? this is for a

Perhaps if "external drive", "AS/400", "purge project" and "sufficient space" were more thoroughly defined, readers will have a better idea how to respond to give a worthwhile reply to the inquiry, possibly even to include alternatives, rather than the readers having to followup with effectively useless banter trying to extract the missing details or their offering of replies that give no assistance because the reader was not clear on the restrictions\requirements with regard to how the OP intends those terms to be interpreted.

I could for example respond that a particular AS/400 model and configuration may allow for an external _tape_ drive and a system with little more beyond an Ethernet card and TCP/IP configuration could map to the storage of another server as an effective\virtual drive, but either or both of those options could be moot for whatever are the unstated requirements. For the first option however, I would ask why an internal tape drive is not an option; i.e. a request for further clarification of the restrictions\requirements.
