Paul,
Since you haven't been to COMMON since Moses was an RPG Programmer, you would have no idea. COMMON and the LUG have a great close relationship, with each group sharing requirements, requirement processes, board member interaction, and helping each group grow. LUG has been encouraging the members of the LUG companies to attend COMMON for the past few years. About 3 years ago I gave a presentation at the LUG about the benefits of COMMON, and it was very well received by the membership. Asking questions on how they can get the rest of their companies more involved.
Pete (My opinions in this note are mine, and I don't speak for the COMMON organization)

At the risk of kicking a hornet's nest, I don't think many LUG attendees go to COMMON anymore.

And you gave a correct answer. However there are LUG shops that literally use SAVSTG to roll out hundreds of new machines. It's been many a year since I bumped into one of these at COMMON but I've heard of it.
The auditors question is not totally unreasonable.

This client has systems that are ordered according to the function they
will
serve. For example, the development box is tiny compared to the production
systems. She couldn't understand that, until I asked her if she would use
her bike or an 18 wheeler to go get coffee at her neighborhood Starbuck's.

If asked for that I could easily give them the set up programs I run for
new lpars. That has all the CHGSYSVAL's, CHGCMDDFT's, and so on. But as
an auditor I don't know as if I would trust them. That program gets
enhanced with each new lpar, release, etc. So, whose to say that the
other lpars would really match?
