I didn't mention digests - how do we reply to them and keep the reply in a thread - maybe not? I just don't know. David? Rob?
And this sub-topic is going to be in the middle of the middle of a thread!!

Guilty!
I was unaware of hidden document fields. I had assumed it was the subject that kept things in line.
I have often attempted to start a new topic by replying to a random post in the list I was looking to post to and just changing the subject.
I will do better in the future.

I know Vern. It also looks like crap at archives.midrange.com. However several people just do not care. They refuse to type in the email address MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx, and they refuse to simplify that by adding that email address to their contacts. They will always pick an email to reply to in order to begin an unrelated thread. And think we should be honored if they remember to change the subject line and only hit reply instead of reply with history.
They don't understand that email readers line up threads by hidden document fields and not just the subject line combined with date/time.

I just noticed - this is in the IASP thread in my Thunderbird client.
Note to John and others - it really messes things up when we change the
subject in the middle of a thread.
So if we want to say something on a new topic, start a new thread - in
other words, don't reply with a changed subject.
I'm not one with official authority on these lists - disclaimer - just
encouraging better use of them.
