Posts made with a digest subject line are very frustrating for me. I try to read all messages on a topic before replying, and this makes it very hard.

I also try to weed out subjects that I'm not interested in by the subject line, which obviously doesn't work with the subject line is "midrange digest".

That's without even beginning a discussion about the damage it does to the mailing list archives.

I agree with you that I don't want this list to be the sort of place that scares away new posters. I'd much rather see digest mode removed, since it is (IMHO) harmful to the ease-of-use of these mailing lists, and provides very little benefit.
