Did anyone create any large LF or do any restores that would trigger the rebuild of a large access path.
Check the two below jobs, CPU% when slow will be between 30 and 40 %.
I found this to be an issue in the past.

Well hopefully you have collection services running (as part of PM iSeries) if nothing else...
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/topic/rzahx/rzahxsetup.htm

If you have the performance tools licpgm, you may be able to see something via the iNav plug-in.
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/index.jsp?topic=%2Frzahx%2Frzahxperftoolcondisplay.htm

Assuming you have IBM support, you may want to just open a PMR and let them dig into it.

Or perhaps you have MPG's tools...
http://www.mpginc.com/perfnav1.htm

And if not, consider downloading a trial copy. You get full features for
30(?) days, which may be enough to dig into your issue (again assuming you had collection services already running). IIRC correct the tooling is pretty reasonably priced. After that, you get a free basic subset of functionality that's kind of useful. More useful is the automated consolidation of collected data.

As a last resort, you can query the collection service data tables directly http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/topic/rzahx/rzahxperfdatafiles1.htm

Google for example queries...but be warned it's not for the novice. :)

Hi Folks, for about 10 mins today our i went into slowdown mode with
CPU in the high 90% (which is fairly frequently from time to time) and
our MQ jobs went into MTXW and some applications were stalled or hung,
our legasuite app for one. No interactive sessions were knocked off
or ended and no errors for controllers were shown on qsysopr during
this 10 min period. Qsysopr shows only a few jobs running during the
10 min period and those jobs are rountinely run during the day.

As the network folks wonder what's wrong with the i and my boss
too...I say the issue may be the network and I'm not totally sure
about that but this type of issue has happened b4 where the i is slow
then all of a sudden we're back to normal.

Is there anything that I can do to prove that the issue was not on the i?

Is there anything in the performance reports that could help me figure
out what happened?

What's the strategy that you folks would employ in this situation?

Thanks, Frank
