I am curious....with all the talk about the difficulty in using VIOS
because of the command line interface (which I agree with), I am
wondering why the IVM isn't used more. There is a Redpiece on it
found
here: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/redp4061.html. I use the
IVM for creating, maintaining and removing the multiple LPAR's I have
on my JS12 blade and it is very easy to use and I haven't found it
wanting when it came to configuration options. I haven't used a
system that had an HMC for quite a while but the Redpiece says this:
"IVM is a simplified hardware management solution that inherits most
of the Hardware Management Console (HMC) features."
As a web UI, it is pretty good. Is the *most* qualifier on the HMC
features the issue? Are there many HMC or VIOS functions that you
find missing in the IVM? Is it limited to Blade implementations?
I am not afraid of a *NIX command line but I AM lazy. If I can do it
through the IVM and avoid the command line I will. I am just curious
as to why it isn't used/referred to more often.
