Before anyone has a kitten, it's not an AS/400 (unless you have a really
old system). And that's one of the reasons that it's not as popular (in the
masses, not the select few) as other systems - people don't know the value
of the modern system. The i system is popular among its adherents due to
integrated security, ease of administration, good printing capabilities,
integrated database, a decent number of back office applications, and the
ability to support modern technologies. Many clients use the i because they
have software that runs on it, and it would be cost prohibitive to make a
move. Pick up "Inside the AS/400" to learn all about the architecture. It's
old, but still salient.
