Well, let's split hairs. It's all IFS. IFS stands for Integrated File
System. This also includes /qsys.lib, /qopt for all your optical drives,
/qntc for shares on other PC's and servers and more. But most people are
thinking "stream file system" when they say IFS. Tables and logicals are
not stream files. Yes you can do
WRKLNK '/QSYS.LIB/MYLIB.LIB/MYFILE.FILE/*.MBR' and get a list of members
in a file (or partitions in a table if you like to talk database). And I
can even do this
EDTF '/QSYS.LIB/ERPLXF.LIB/RCO.FILE/RCO.MBR'
which kind of frightens the hell out of me.
But still, people generally consider tables and logicals part of the
/qsys.lib file system and not part of the stream file system. And those
who feel their beliefs are absolute do not consider that part of the IFS.
ps:
I find
WRKLNK '/QSYS.LIB/MYLIB.LIB/MYFILE.FILE/*.MBR'
extremely useful on systems without PDM. Most of my lpars do not have PDM
even though the box may be licensed for it. Does a great job of
discouraging development on production lpars.

So in fact, do you use the IFS when you are making the connection from
Crystal. When you say ODBC connection to AS/400 tables or logicals, this
is
actually using the IFS?

Not sure if they have added ability to run form a command line in recentoften

documents with Crystal for previous projects.
This allowed us to then call out desired reports on the fly.
With that in place you don't really need Crystal Enterprise.

Rich, that's what I was thinking. Why use the CR formulas which are
a bit convoluted.question
Didn't know it can read an XML file i have to check that. Other
i have is how to use the Crystal Enterprise but this is probably thewrong
forum.REport
For instance, suppose you want to run Report B based on a result in
A for certain users, else run Report C.list
on the AS/400, there are many ways but you could just do this in a CL.

If you're using Crystal, make sure to consider simply generating XML
files for input and then the reports are for presentation only.
Simplifies the process.
If you're looking for IBM i based alternatives our iForms product can
be used to natively generates reports and electronic forms in a
variety of formats including print, PDF, HTML, RTC, CSV and more.
CL commands can also be embedded in your application code as needed.
