Hi, James:

Perhaps you are thinking of creating a LF where all of hte fields are defined using "substring" in DDS, over the one-and-only field in a "flat file" PF? e.g.:

A R NAMEDRCD
A PFILE(FLATFILE)
A FSTNAM I SST(FLATFL 01 10)
A COLHDG('First' 'Name')
A LSTNAM I SST(FLATFL 11 20)
A COLHDG('Last' 'Name')

etc.?

I've been informed that we may be needing to create either a DDS LF or

worst case scenario.

I seem to recall that there are ways to do it, as well as ways to use
IDDU to impose a format on an existing flat PF. But I'm having trouble
remembering what does and does not work in this regard.

Can somebody point me in the right direction?
