The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
Totally understand Chuck. And if you had an index on that table by ODxCEN
then it could use that index to assist in a query by
Order by ODxCEN desc, substr(ODxDAT,5,2) desc, substr(ODxDAT,1,4) desc
whereas it couldn't use that index with my example of concantenating them
all together.
Again, why do the extra work, eh?
Now, back on the S/36 I "think" you could have had an index based on row
position and not on column position. So a substring was no problem. But
that was all negated by requiring all the bytes be contiguous. Again,
what was IBM on when they created MMDDYY character columns to represent
dates?
