The C/C++ compiler runs in PASE.

The really good-performance Java now runs in PASE.

IBM is running a number of things in PASE, and not everything is doing
poorly there.

None of this contradicts my experience. Who knows whether native
versions of all those things would be even faster in the native
environment?

I will say that I think some software projects would not happen at all
if not for PASE, because native is just too different from familiar
environments (mainly Linux and Unix, but also Windows to an extent) to
be worth the development effort.

Also, as I said, PASE itself (and perhaps PASE-targeting compilers)
could have improved greatly since my experience with it.
