Actually, I have no objection to "a simple command to do something"; I just don't think RUNSQLSTM is the right one for running a SELECT to the screen (or to a spool file).

And actually, I just prompted RUNSQLSTM on our V6 box. I don't even see an option to do anything like RUNSQLSTM <immediate SQL statement>. It always expects the SQL to be in either a source member or an IFS stream file. So how would it be any simpler for immediate SQL than opening a STRSQL session?

I do, however, maintain that RUNSQLSTM *is* the right tool for things like programmatically generating and LABEL ON -ing views from SQL (possibly programmatically generated SQL) in a source member.
