There's a lot to be said for the ability to trap errors and whatnot. One
of the reasons we backed away from CPYTOIMPF, CPYFRMIMPF and PC file
transfers was that when there was bad data it would blow with an obscure
entry like Column A was too big for the table. Basically that meant
someone put a 16 character item number and the table on the i only
supported 15. It was then up to you to determine which row in the
spreadsheet it was complaining about. On a spreadsheet with a few
thousand rows it could be fun.

Rolling our own using Scott Klement's IFS API's allows much better error
trapping.

On the other side of the coin, there's something to be said for
productivity. Why write a program when a CL command will do what you
want?
