The more important comment Paul made was to run all the steps in the 
"Prepare for Upgrade" (I think option 5 on the LICPGM menu). That will 
allow you to set the proper LPPs to load, add the ones that are new 
(there are some, mainly Java, and you DO need them) and see any LPPs 
that need to be removed prior to the upgrade.

The one step in there that will make life much better is loading and 
accepting all the software agreements. Not doing that ahead of time is 
unpleasant at best.
