Paul,

Sorry, V5R4 is out of marketing (or some term), which means while it still has support, you can't get keys for it any longer. This has been this way for over 1 year, if not longer.

I have a client I just upgraded from V5R3 to V5R4 at the beginning of the year in order to install their software company's year end updates. She bought a new SWMA just for that purpose, with the intent to get upgraded all the way to V7. The ESS portal is under the impression that she went from 5.3 to 6.1.

I reminded her last week to contact IBM for the new keys, and this is the response she got from Denmark:

"Hello Madame,

As per our conversation I am forwarding you the Guidelines for the ESS website. They contain the instructions for performing the upgrade.

Once you will have performed the upgrade to V7, please send back to us the attached form, properly filled in every part, for the creation of LPAR keys.

Thank you!

Kind regards,
Stefano "

I told her to call the people who helped her get the new SWMA and get the keys from the Boulder office.

Sorry about that.

For others, on the positive side, all the more reason to move to 7.1 now instead of waiting until "you need it".

Just a heads up for those of you moving to the new 7xx boxes.

My wife works for a bank that recently ordered and received a new Power 7+

720. Really
nice little P05 that is big enough to support this small community bank.

She's been trying to get 7.1 keys for the existing 520 and expected that
when she ordered the
system she would have time to test and move the old system to the new and
also expected
that she'd upgrade to 7.1 from 6.1 on her 520 for an easy transition.

By ordering and therefore, tipping her hand, IBM removed her ability to
order and get 7.1 for
for her 520. They will only give her 15 day keys. She's so upset with

this tactic, she's returning the
system.
