Please remember that DB2 has the concept of "Index Only Access", so if your
query requires only the columns defined in a particular index there is no
need to access data from the physical file. In this case, I can see why
having an index on the SSD could be a good thing, even if the corresponding
table remains in a "standard" DASD.
