Most self-extracting zip files are zip file with a little header program that unzips it. You can change the file extension to .zip and then use 7zip or something else on it. The dearchive tools know how to skip the program. The native unjar command in QSH should open it up.

Subject: Re: Extract data from self extracting ZIP file (.EXE)

This file will be in a directory on the IFS.
I am looking for a way to do this in a batch program on the IBM i.
In windows, double clicking the file will cause it to extract the files.
In a DOS window, I could just enter the file name on a command line and it would run it and do the same.
Is there any way perhaps using the PASE or QSHELL environment that I can do the same?

There are CLI switches like /X on many SFX files - try /? in a console

There are many types, so I can't give specific advice without knowing
the original compression util.

All,
Without the use of a 3rd party package, is there any way to automate
this?
I have a client that downloads software updates for a package on the
IBM
i
system. Presently, that is done my connecting to a web site and
manually transfer them using FTP.

Thanks,
