IBM acknowledges that some items are not compatible with the Domain search
list available in either
CFGTCP, 12. Change TCP/IP domain information
or
CHGTCPDMN DMNSCHLIST('dekko-1 corp.dekko.com dekko.com')

For example, PING and TELNET may be, but the following commands are not:
NSLOOKUP (officially deprecated after 6.1 - use HOST or DIG)
DIG
HOST

These commands use an IFS file that is not kept in sync with CHGTCPDMN.
For details see the cover letter for PTF SI30551. Not that the use of
that PTF will fix this - just the cover letter tells you how to fix the
stream file. PMR 74197,500,000 has a few more details.

IBM assures me that is targeted for the next release of IBM i. It will
not be PTF'd back and will not likely be on a Technology Refresh.

The reason I post this to the Domino list also is that apparently Domino
does not use either domain search list. A Domino TRACE command from a
domino server based on a host in corp.dekko.com could not find the server
in dekko.com. The workaround was to go into a connection document for
that server and change the "Optional network address" and place in
dominoservername.dekko.com

Some details from pmr 74197,500,000:

1. From AS400 command line type
edtf '/etc/resolv.conf

2. Before entering any data, press F15=Services

3. For (3) Change CCSID of file, change this to 00819, and
then enter 3 next to Selection at top of screen and press
Enter

4. For (5) Change Stream file EOL option to be *LF, and then
enter 5 next to Selection at top of screen and press Enter

5. Press F3 to exit Services

6. Tab your cursor to be between the Beginning of data and End
of Data lines (but not directly on the CMD input field)

7. Type
search corp.dekko.com dekko-1 dekko.com

8. Press F3 twice to save and then exit

9. Repeat the process above for the /etc/netsvc.conf file,
but enter the following text instead
hosts=local

Please note that you need to specify parameter
USEDMNSCHL(*YES) on the DIG command to use a domain search
list. By default, on most platforms, it does not use a domain
search list, so it needs to be turned on.

E,g, DIG HOSTNAME(traveler01) USEDMNSCHL(*YES)
