This went off list so I am putting it back on.....

Thanks. I had to wait to come in this AM because I can't get to the i
from anywhere but the local switch.....

I CAN ping the gateway from the laptop on the local switch so the GW is
available and responds to a ping. The arp cache on the laptop and i
both have the same MAC address listed for the GW. The i can ping
everything on the local switch BUT the GW.....

I would call that a clue. Assuming you're able to ping it from other
devices in the subnet that needs to be solved. This is usually a mac
address table issue or ARP issue. Potentially something in the
firewall that is trying to take over the 10.0.10.230 address. On the
other side of the fence you have iBM i possibly thinking 10.0.10.2 is
some other device. If you PING the gateway from a PC then do arp -a to
see it's MAC address. Next do the PING from i, then using iNav bring
up network, TCP/IP config, Lines and right click on the Ethernet line
then select ARP Cache. See if you see the same ARP entry pair for
10.0.10.2 that you saw on the PC side. If it IS there then that's a
clue and if it's NOT there that's a different clue. If it's there and
DIFFERENT then that's a big clue!
