Fascinating: even within the context of IBM, "BRMS" can mean at least two completely different things (the other one being "Business Rules Management System).

I still don't get why it is, by default, even caring whether or not it's a BRMS tape, and I have no clue what is involved in "registering" a tape with BRMS; we just format them and use them, reformatting as needed.
