Thanks, that tells me three things :
1. The ad is rather vague as I thought.
2. I'm not totally ignorant about RDBs
3. What I need to know to have a good knowledge of them

2012/12/14 <rob@xxxxxxxxx>:
I'd have to base it on the context. Did the ad also ask about SQL Server,
Oracle or other databases? If not, then let's talk in the context of an
RPG developer. An RPG developer that is expected to have a good knowledge
of relational databases had better know their way around terminology and
concepts like:
- What is "third normal form"?
- What is a check constraint?
- What is a relational constraint?
- What is a trigger and have you used some?
- How do you code a stored procedure in RPG?
- How do you code a stored procedure in SPL?
- How do you use a stored procedure from within RPG?
- How do you code a UDF in RPG?
- How do you code a UDF in SPL?
- How do you define tables, indexes, views with DDL?
- How do you use imbedded SQL?
- How do you use the index adviser of iNav?
- How do you use the relational diagramming of iNav?
- How do you use the multitude of other tools for database in iNav?
- How do you access SQL Server (or other external) databases from within
RPG?
A multisystem shop may also need to know
- How do you implement and use partitioned tables using DB2 multisystem?

Subject: Good knowledge of relational data bases

Hi all,

A local job ad asks for an RPG developer with "Good knowledge of
relational data bases". Can anyone give me some concrete examples of
what exactly they might mean by that?
Thanks
