A service pack must be installed over the version it's for. It's like saying Windows XP SP3 must be installed on Windows XP, not Windows 98 or Windows 7. You can't wipe your hard drive and install SP3; you have to install Windows XP first (though it could include SP3 on the install.)

It doesn't have to match the version installed on the IBM i.

Subject: iSeries Navigator vs. iSeries OS version levels

GM list:

This is the first time I see this error message from the installation of an SP.

Scenario:
iSeries Operating System level: V5R4M0 iSeries Navigator Version:
V5R2M0

Goal: Apply SI37892 to my IBM Client Access for Windows in my laptop. This is based on this info:

http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/i/access/windows_sp.html

Problem:
When I tried to install the service pack, there is an error while comparing the 2 products. It states: "SP Version, Release and Modification level (VRM) must be the same as the installed product's VRM"

Now, the questions:

1) Should iSeries Navigator and iSeries OS version levels be the same? I thought that the iSeries Navigator was a stand-alone piece of software (like an add-in) similar in concept to the 5250 Emulation software, and that they might have a different version level if compared to the iSeries OS level.

2) Does the SI37892 has "everything" that iSeries Navigator needs that (a) I can uninstall the current iSeries Navigator version and install then SI37892 or you recommend instead to (b) upgrade iSeries Navigator to V5R4M0 first and then SI37892.

Sorry for the silly questions but maybe somebody went through this process already.

Regards and have an awesome and blessed day!
