We looked at it several years ago and thought we would give it a go since it was the IBM product to replace query/400. I tried working with it, but kept running into limitations. Many of the problem we saw were mentioned by Dan in his article, the biggest being e-mailing of reports was limited or required an expensive add-on. It looks like some of that may be remedied in its new packaging. After we couldn't get past our initial test reports e-mailed out like planned we decided on using Jaspersoft's iReport and JasperServer products (free community editions).

One of WebQuery's biggest benefits was the metadata layer that they had to allow for end-users to access the data without now SQL or Field names. The problem with that, is our users have a very flexible ERP client that can get to almost all of their ad-hoc data requirements (Infor XA). Anything beyond a list, they can export into EXCEL to create pivot charts etc. or get with IT to develop and e-mail reports as required.

- Which points of the author Dan Burger do you agree with?
- Disagree with?
- No business requirement to drive experimentation and deployment?

- resistance of a new product when Query/400 was so well entrenched?
- engage with the DB2 for i Center of Excellence team for assistance?

- Or engage other private consulting group for training?

- Licensing Costs?
- Complexity of order process?
