If I do a STRHOSTSVR *DATABASE on a system with it already active one of 
the messages I receive is:
PWS3004 - Host server daemon job already active.
... but it's program, QSYS/QZDASRVSD, is allocated by another job.  ...
WRKOBJLCK OBJ(QSYS/QZDASRVSD) OBJTYPE(*PGM)
Job          User         Lock 
QZDASRVSD    QUSER        *EXCLRD

Had to hunt like crazy through *netstat *cnn but it's using ports 8471, 
8478, 9471, 
therefore, a netstat *cnn and looking for a certain port, like 664, tells 
you what?
