For a new entry yes. If there is an existing entry that might have ARP cached with the old address, it could take a bit to update all the ARP
cache entries. IBM i updates by default every 15 minutes. You can
force the ARP cache to clear and have it take effect more quickly.

I need to modify my host table to:

1) revise an existing entry by changing two host name values
associated this IP address to two new values and;

2 ) add an entry for a new ip address and assign the two original host names previously used in step one to this new ip address.

When does the change take effect? Will I need to bounce TCP ?
