The same principles pretty much apply - get good indexes for JOINs and selectivity (WHERE clause).

There is still the "Database performance and query optimization" manual on Infocenter - look under Database there, then at the list of PDFs. Link is -

Lots of nice icons - in the section on access methods, they use the icons that are used in Visual Explain, which is the tool in navigator. Once in Visual Explain, make a right-click your best friend - lots of help and options there.

There are a couple Redbooks mentioned in the manual - I think Birgitta was involved with one - IIRC.

The ibmi cafe at developerworks (http://www.ibm.com/developerworks.com/ibmi) will have stuff on database in one of the sections - I saw a couple maybe-interesting articles in the technical library. Some are a few years old but may still have relevance.

Ok gang...I'm jumping in. I need some guidance on how to use the tools

Navigator to get to the latest. On 7.1. Fast new hardware.

Looking for manuals, experience, suggestions. I've done a little SQL
performance work, but it was under 5.4 and I'm sure things are
different/better now.

Thanks in advance...
