We just implemented three DD890s and are planning two more next year. I designed the virtual libraries, replication scheme, Ethernet + FC and FCoE redundancy configuration, and basic automated monitoring infrastructure. I can tell you all about "deduplication" and compression ratios as it relates to System i data. Contact me privately if you want to talk details.
There are size and throughput limitations per model that you need to consider, so be careful when you size the prospective VTL appliance.
