Can you afford to purchase one of the 5250 screen scraping applications that adds the web GUI for you?

I have a similar situation. A 5250 POS system that has worked perfect with very few changes for many years. Using mostly WASP POS hardware attached to a standard PC. Boots, autologon the network, auto starts Client Access, autologon to the iSeries and asks for the cashier number. Very tightly integrated to our backend student and employee (customers) systems. The only thing lacking is a touch screen GUI like most POS systems will have these days. I was thinking of just adding a touch screen monitor and convert to a web app with just big HTML buttons to initiate actions. Most of the data enter is via mag stripe or bar code scanning.

Time and lack thereof. Although we are getting an intern....

Otherwise yes, I would love to make a web-based or Windows form app to work with the existing system.

We are thinking of moving from a 5250 homegrown POS to something PC based. What is out there that you have used? We aren't opposed (at this time) to iPad based POS either. How does it interface with the IBM i? Is the entry fields customizable?
