I should add that we are a city government. We process water bills,
building permits, licenses, anything else you may envision the
government "squeezes" out of you (except income/property taxes, we
don't handle them). The point of our cash register is to quickly enter
the data in and validate/fix afterwards. I really don't know how often
that happens.

We don't really know how they work, but we envision a package that
collects the data, then we take that file an put it into our existing
cash register database to do the rest of the processing we normally do
on the data.
